First things first...
Here's me with Piper (or Pipes as I like to call her) our very gorgeous and cheeky mini schnauzer. If you follow us on Instagram you will have seen her on there on more than one occasion! Alas, Piper's not with me in the shop all the time as she's way too food focused and with a delicious cafe next door it can become a bit of a problem!
We love dogs and most of you do too so you'll be pleased to know that Shelf is dog friendly. It will depend on size though as the shop is quite small but there's always a bowl of water outside and sometimes we even have treats!
Where it all began...
I’ve owned Shelf Home + Gifts since 2016 when I purchased the business from Gail, the original owner. Back then it was located across the road from where we are now, in a teeny tiny 12m2 space with shelves on either side…hence the name!
When the opportunity arose to move to our current location a few years ago I hesitated a little because I loved my wee shop, it was super quaint! I can still remember Penny (a former staff member) and I pressing our faces against the big windows of what was then The Plane Tree, a gorgeous interiors shop, and being quickly swayed by all the extra space. It was so much bigger with large windows but best of all it had an internal barn door from the shop through to a great cafe, Emperor’s New Clothes! Decision made!
WHAT TO EXPECT…
Shelf is still a relatively small store. I like to think of it as quaint and cozy but it’s filled to the brim with so many wonderful gifts, homewares and accessories. You won't find it hard to find the perfect gift for yourself or someone special. There's candles, books, ceramics and throws, a great selection of scarves (of which I'm obsessed!), jewellery, beautiful bags and baby gifts!
We stock some wonderful New Zealand made products too! There’s Amberjack Candles, B.Bold, Ashley and Co, Botanical NZ, Moobee and Lamington Socks to name a few...and let's not forget my lovely friend Ruth’s Wheatbags and Eye Pillows! We cater to all budgets so whether you’re after a little something to tuck in an envelope for a friend overseas, or something more, we’d love to help! Best of all we offer free gift wrapping too!
At Shelf we take pride in creating a welcoming space...
You can order a coffee next door and browse at your leisure and chat with myself or one of our friendly staff; Jo, Lisa, Jan or Rhian.
